Taking proper care of your jewellery not only enhances its life and luster, but also enables you to enjoy it for years to come. As a result we’ve created this brief Jewellery Care Guide giving you tips for proper care of your jewellery. We hope that you’ll find these guidelines helpful.
When to wear and when not?
Remove jewellery during manual activities – We advise you to remove your jewellery when undertaking manual activities such as cooking, household cleaning, etc. to prevent it from contact with sweat, perspiration & chemicals. Jewellery may also get entangled with other objects which can cause it to snap / break.
Remove your jewellery before bathing or applying makeup – Colognes, Perfumes, Hairspray, Cosmetics, Soap and lotion can contain chemicals that can often react and damage jewellery, therefore wear them after your makeup to prevent exposure and damage.
Remove jewellery before sporting activities – Chlorinated water , Perspiration, etc. can react with the metals found in jewellery causing color changes, therefore please remove them before entering the pool or any contact sporting activities. Besides damaging you jewellery, there is a danger of it getting entangled and causing serious injury to you or your partner.
Tips for cleaning your jewellery:
Jewellery polishing cloth
Polish silver or gold with a jewellery polishing cloth for best results. Professional cloths are the best and easily available. Use of tissue or paper towels can cause scratches because of fibers in these products.
Professional cleaning solution
Use only professional cleaning solutions and tarnish removers available. Do not use alcohol or bleach. Ultrasonic cleaning is also a good option and usually available with most jewellers.
Use warm water to clean jewellery
Warm water with alcohol-free mild soap can also be used to clean you jewellery. However we recommend this as a last resort.
Tips for storing your jewellery:
Jewellery should be kept secure
Storing jewellery in a containers prevent pieces from moving around. Fabric lined jewellery boxes are a preferred way of securing your jewellery.
Reduce chance of tarnishing
Pure sterling silver jewellery has a tendency to tarnish especially when it’s not worn. To maintain the luster of your jewellery, place it in re-sealable poly-bags before putting them into a container to prevent it from oxidation / tarnishing. Tarnishing does not mean that you sterling silver is not pure but it’s the opposite. If however, tarnishing does occur then you can always refer to our Jewellery cleaning tips and / or get it re-polished or re-plated.
The above are basic guidelines for you information only.
